Public speaking 1
Introduction and first activity |
On 5th October, Alan Devine came to our school and talked about public speaking. When we first saw him he sounded very depressed and looked unhappy. Then all of a sudden he is full of energy and very funny. The first thing he taught us was to stand up in front of a group of people. He each gave us a joke and he made everyone go up one at a time and tell the joke. He was telling us about his mother granny Devine in a comedic way and one person laughed at one of the jokes he made about her and Alan said to him "why are making fun of my mother she is very old".

Second Activity
|
After break we put away the chairs and formed a circle. We played a game called Bing Bong. In this game one person would have to shout the word Bing to the person next to them and that person would shout Bong to the next to them and that person would have to shout their name. We played another game where we had to memories a poem and actions and whoever says the wrong word, wrong action or forgets what to say is eliminated. In my opinion it was the best thing we did Alan on that day. After that we all sat down again and Alan told us about some of the thing people from other schools have talked about. He told us about a student who wrote a speech on noodles, a person who loves their hair and a person who talked about New York.

Third activity |
After lunch we all sat down and Alan picked a person to be a robot. The robot would have to do a number poses. Alan called a number of people up to try and copy the same movements as the robot while saying peoples names. We did another activity where he would give us a certain word or film/TV show and we had to describe it to the audience. It was like charades except you can talk. This is called part 1 because Alan told us to write a speech and memories it because he will be coming back next week and we will have to say this speech to our class. Alan was a great, funny and inspirational man who gave us great advice on public speaking.
